Val Wood

Since winning the Catherine Cookson Prize for Fiction for her first novel, The Hungry TideVal Wood has published eighteen novels and has become one of the most popular authors in the UK.

Born in the mining town of Castleford, England, Val came to East Yorkshire as a child and has lived in Hull and rural Holderness where many of her novels are set. She now lives in the market town of Beverley.

When she is not writing, Val is busy promoting libraries and supporting many charities including The Hull and District Talking Magazine for the Blind where she has been a volunteer reader and editor for twenty-eight years. She is also the local patron of Home-Start and the Hull Memory Clinic, and has spoken at a number of events for the National Health Service to raise awareness of dementia issues.

Val is currently writing her twentieth novel and has no intention of stopping!
